Early Edition: J.J. Abrams Readies Another 'Trek'; Chan-wook Park Taps Jacki Weaver; More

Abrams is moving forward (not quite at warp speed, but forward) on 'Star Trek 2,' according to Deadline, but since the director is just now meeting with writers and prepping things, the studio has had to scuttle its hoped for June 29, 2012 release date. Instead, it's slotted the Jon M. Chu-directed sequel 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' -- starring Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, RZA and Joe Mazzello. -- into that date. That means that 'Trek 2' most likely will hit screens late 2012 or summer 2013. Meanwhile, Paramount has decided to move 'Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol' from its Dec. 16 release date to Wednesday, Dec. 21, away from Warner Bros.' 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows' and Fox's 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' sequel. But it will now open against the David Fincher-directed 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' (from Sony). That Friday, Dec. 23, will see the opening of Par's 'The Adventures of Tintin,' Summit Entertainment's 'The Darkest Hour,' Fox's 'We Bought a Zoo' and FilmDistrict's Angelina Jolie-directed 'In the Land of Blood and Honey.' Jacki Weaver, who earned an Oscar nomination for her role as a bad-ass mama in last year's 'Animal Kingdom,' has joined the cast of Chan-wook Park's ('Oldboy,' 'Thirst') 'Stoker,' a thriller for Fox Searchlight about an eccentric teenager mourning the death of her father who must deal with her enigmatic and estranged uncle who shows up for the funeral -- bringing some unexpected weirdness with him. 'Stoker' stars Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska and Matthew Goode. [Deadline] Sony Pictures Classics has picked up U.S. rights to Lawrence Kasdan's 'Darling Companion,' about a woman who rescues a stray dog only to have her self-involved husband lose it after a wedding at their vacation home. Distraught, she gets the wedding guests to help her search for the dog. The movie stars Diane Keaton as the woman, Kevin Kline as the husband, Dianne Wiest, Richard Jenkins, Elizabeth Moss, Mark Duplass, Ayelet Zurer and Sam Shepherd. Sony is aiming for an early 2012 release. [Variety] Here's one to file under "Please, No." Mimi Leder has signed on to direct a remake of 'All Quiet on the Western Front,' the classic 1930 adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque's WWI novel that won Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. Leder, whose career has been in television -- aside from directing 'The Peacemaker' and 'Deep Impact' -- had not seen the film when she was sent the script by writers Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson. That baffles us -- the film is de rigueur viewing for any director worth his/her salt. That's reason enough to hope that this project is stillborn. [Deadline]

Is The Thing (1982) that bad by today's standards?

Really wanting to watch this movie. So bad. I love the xbox game, but
I get anxiety over gory movies, and I don't know if I can take this
one. I asked a question similar to this for Dawn of the Dead, which is
one of my all time favorite movies now. I just need to shut up and
watch it; but not without worry first. So is it that gory/gross/scary
by today's standards? Any input would be great!

I want to sing country and bluegrass, but I got heckled in the last few places I sang at...?

Hello my name is Joseph. I'm 16 years old and I love country,
bluegrass and folk. I live in a small town in Arkansas just outside of
Little Rock where my parents opened up a Sushi and Japanese Steakhouse
restaurant. Oh yeah, I'm also Japanese, though I don't think that
should matter in this day in age, but tell that to those who heckled
me the few times I've sang because of my race =(.

I've only just started to sing publicly in restaurants and bars this
year, but the few times I've sang I seem to always get a heckler or
two. They're usually drunk and they make snide remarks and sometimes
racists remarks too. I don't know what to do. I love singing, but
sometimes these hecklers get to me. I know there are some Black and
Mexican country singers, I wonder if they were heckled when they first
started.

I've been singing since I was in elementary school and fell in love
with this style of music when I started listening to Johnny Cash and
some of my friends listened to all kinds of similar music. Though I
appreciate all music though, country, bluegrass and folk are in my
heart.

What should I do to persevere and continue doing the thing I love
most, singing this genre of music?

Name of the show that aired on Disney (or similar) channel in 1990s?

There was this show I watched as a kid about this sister who's
semi-magic and semi-feral who lives on an island, and slowly discovers
her past, like how she has a younger sister, and that there's an alien
space craft crashed on the island, and there's an evil scientist, and
a magic ball, and they're really good at swimming. Any idea of a name
of the show would be greatly appreciated.

X-Men: First Class is a 2011 American super hero movie directed by Matthew Vaughn. Based mostly on the character types appearing in Marvel Comics, it is a prequel to the X-Men movie sequence. X-Men: First Class was released on June 1, 2011 in the Britain and on June 3 in the North american. The movie is about primarily in 1962 in the course of the Cuban Rocket Crisis and is focused on the relationship between Professor X and Magneto and then the source of their teams, the X-Men plus the Brotherhood of Mutants. The movie superstars James McAvoy as Professor X and Michael Fassbender as Magneto. Different solid people embody Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Zoë Kravitz, Nicholas Hoult and Lucas Till. The movie was largely captured in Great britain and areas of north america. At a German concentration camp in populated Poland in 1944, scientist Dr. Schmidt detects young Erik Lensherr bend a metallic gate together with his mind when the child is separated from his mother and father. In a Westchester Area, New York mansion, young telepath Charles Xavier meets homeless young form-shifter Raven. Overjoyed to meet someone else "totally different" like him, he invites her to stay together with his family. In his department, Schmidt asks Lensherr to equally move a metallic coin on a table, and kills his mom when the child can't. Lensherr's out-of-manage magnetic power manifests, murdering two security guards and ruining the room, a lot to Schmidt's delight. In 1962, an grownup Lensherr has initiated tracking down original Nazis, trying to find Schmidt and take payback. In Britain, Oxford College graduate Xavier is writing his dissertation on mutation; Raven, now his foster sister, lives together with him. In Las Vegas, Cia agent Moira MacTaggert comes after U.S. Soldiers Colonel Hendry in to the Hellfire Team, in which she sees Sebastian Shaw, Emma Frost, and Azazel. After Shaw threatens Hendry, Azazel goes away with the officer; times later Hendry is in the Struggle Room, advocating that the U.S. deploy nuclear missiles in Turkey. Shaw later kills Hendry, exposing himself as Schmidt and exhibiting the power-absorbing mutant power which has de-aged him. MacTaggert, in search of Xavier's advice on mutation, presents him and Raven to the Cia, in which they persuade Director McCone that mutants really exist and Shaw is a threat. Though McCone declines to use the mutants, they're sponsored by the un-named "Man in Black Match", one other Cia management. Xavier monitors Shaw down, arriving in time to stop Lensherr, who had assaulted Shaw, through drowning as Shaw runs away. Xavier brings Lensherr to the Cia's secret "Division X" center. They see younger scientist Hank McCoy, a prehensile-footed mutant whom Xavier accidentally outs as a mutant. McCoy, growing a connection with Raven, claims her he'll look for a method to normalize their appearance. Xavier works by using a mutant- searching for product, Cerebro, to seek out and recruit mutants for education to stop Shaw. He and Lensherr look up stripper Angel Salvadore; taxi driver Armando Muñoz, who gets the code name Darwin; Army captive Alex Summers, who names himself Havok; and Sean Cassidy, who calls himself Banshee. Raven gets the title Mystique. While Frost meets with a Soviet general in the united states, Xavier and Lensherr capture her. At the same time, Azazel, Riptide and Shaw invasion Division X, killing everybody but the young mutants and featuring them the ability to hitch him. Angel accepts; at the time Darwin makes an attempt to combat back, Shaw kills him. With the power damaged, Xavier takes the mutants to teach at his household mansion. McCoy devises defending apparel and a invisible airplane. In Moscow, Shaw obliges the general to have the Soviet Union add nuclear missiles in Cuba. During the Cuban Rocket Emergency, U.S. President John F. Kennedy institutes a blockade to prevent a Soviet freighter from moving the nuclear missiles to Cuba. Shaw, wearing a helmet that foils Xavier's telepathy, accompanies the Soviet navy in order that the missiles arrive, attempting to set off World Struggle III and gain mutant ascendency. Raven goes to seduce Lensherr, who persuades her to embrace her character as a mutant. After that, McCoy affords Raven his cure for her look, however she declines. The remedy backfires on McCoy, rendering him a leonine monster. Though embarrassed of his new look, he pilots the mutants and MacTaggert to the blockade line. In an following fight with Shaw, Lensherr takes the helmet for himself, permitting Xavier to immobilize Shaw. Regardless of Xavier's objections, Lensherr kills Shaw by making the focus camp coin by means of his brain. Fearing the mutants, the fleets fireplace their missiles at them. Why do the subtitles keep coming back after I keep selecting no subtitles on our Tangled DVD?

My little sister keeps watching Tangled and the subtitles keep coming
on after I keep pressing no subtitles in Set Up. The first time we
watched it I got them off for the movie, but even after I keep telling
it I don't want subtitles they keep coming back. I went to Languages
and set that on English with no subtitles too but they kept coming
back after repeating the process a few times. Please help! This is
really annoying!!!

otherwise known as Transformers: Dark of the Moon. This new trailer
is a full 2 minute long mini-story setting up what looks to be
another epic Transformer film. Directed once again by action director
Michael Bay, Transformers 3 is set to hit theaters July 1, 2011.
Although in this Transformers: Dark of the Moon trailer we don't see
a whole lot of the actual Transformers, we do get to see a cool back
story that takes place on the first moon landing. We also don't get
to experience what the film looks like in 3D since it will be
